JAIPUR: Two Bahujan Samaj Par t y ( BSP) l e a d e r s were paraded on donkeys with blackened faces and garlanded with shoes by the party workers, who accused them of selling the party tickets during Lok Sabha elections, in Jaipur on Tuesday.

Sources claimed that one of the two leaders was a national office-bearer of the party and another a state leader.

The video of the incident, which took place outside the BSP’S office, was circulated on social media. In the video, the party workers can be seen heckling the two leaders accusing them of cheating the party.

Condemning the incident, BSP national president Mayawati termed it a “shameful” act and blamed Congress for it.

“The Congress party first took away our BSP MLAS in Rajasthan and now to damage our movement is attacking senior people, which is shameful and condemnable. The Congress is setting a wrong tradition against Ambedkar movement, which can be replied in the same manner,” she tweeted. In another tweet she added that Congress should desist from such antics.

A senior BSP office-bearer on condition of anonymity said, “Whatever happened is unfortunate and should not have been done. The party workers alleged that the two sold tickets during Lok Sabha polls.”

Replying to the BSP chief’s comment, Congress leader and state minister Rajendra Yadav said, “If there has been a clash between workers, an FIR would have been lodged; the issue will be investigated impartially and action will be taken by police.” The blame game will not help, he added.

Congress vice-president and spokesperson Archana Sharma said the incident is unfortunate and shows declining levels of politics. “It is also visible that t here i s i nf i ghti ng i n BSP, resulting to which such an incident happened,” she said, adding that, “Mayawati’s statement against Congress is unjustified as the party has nothing to do with it.”
