Mob-lynching incidents should not happen: CM
JAIPUR: Chief minister Ashok Gehlot said the country worried about the rise in cases of mob lynching on the suspicion of cattle theft and asserted that such incidents should not happen.
“In our culture, every Hindu considers cow as mother and it is duty of all to respect the feelings. But taking the life of a person on doubts or s uspicion i s not accepted nor taught by any religion,” Gehlot said, addressing newspersons after a meeting at Hingonia Cow Rehabilitation Centre on Sunday.
“An atmosphere of fear, distrust and violence is there in the country, due to which mob lynching incidents are on the rise; this should stop,” he said, adding that the state government would make all efforts to curb them.
He said BJP leaders have a duty to give such a message just like Prime Minister Narendra Modi had once said that people engaging in such activities are anti-social elements.
“I believe mob lynching incidents will stop if the message is clear from the leaders of BJP, RSS and VHP.”
Regarding his letter to the central government on approving the law related to mob lunching,
Gehlot said, “Our efforts will continue as t he law will be moved till the President of India for approval; however it has not moved yet, but even the Supreme Court has reiterated time and again (about laws to stop lynching). This law should be supported.”
Speaking to the gathering at the rehabilitation centre, he said the government intends to make the state free from stray animals and redress farmers’ concerns. “The government is focusing on stray animal problems and accidents due of them.”
He said cow devotees should come forward and help in serving cows. In the previous tenure of the Congress government, a separate cow directorate was established and Rs 120 crore earmarked for the assistance to cow rearers. “It was a first such initiative to establish a separate directorate for serving cows.”
Sharing his experience of visit to Adarsh Gauthan in Chhattisgarh, he said there fodder management and upkeep of cows are done panchayat samiti level. “For the conservation and protection of bovines, Nandi Shala is being opened at every panchayat samiti. In addition, veterinary sub-centres will be opened at 1481 gram panchayats,” he said.
Gehlot said the world’s biggest biogas plant is being made at Hingonia by Indian Oil Corporation, where through 100 metric ton cow-dung 4 metric ton biogas will be produced.
BJP spokesperson Mukesh Pareek said there is no space of violence in Hindu religion. The publicity of the word mob-lynching by Congress has been done with a political view, where for vote politics they have maligned a community image.
“The government has failed to curb cow smuggling. Concrete arrangements should be made; people’s sentiments should be taken care of; and strict action be ensured against those involved in smuggling to send message in public, which installs faith on government,” the BJP spokesperson said.
