BIKANER: A 38-member French Army contingent reached Bikaner on Monday to take part in Shakti-2019, a joint exercise of the Indo-french forces, to be conducted at Mahajan Field Firing Ranges in the district from October 31 to November 13, the Defence PRO said on Tuesday.
I n d i a n Ar my officials extended a warm and traditional welcome to the French Army personnel on their arrival at Mahajan Field Firing Ranges, which was followed by exchange of pleasantries among the soldiers of both the nations, said Colonel Sombit Ghosh, PRO, Defence, Rajasthan.
Shakti-2019 is the fifth edition in a series of bilateral exercises between the two countries.
The joint exercise would focus on counter terrorism operations in the backdrop of semi-desert terrain under the United Nations mandate, the officer said. The joint training would also focus

on high degree of physical fitness, tactical drills, techniques and procedure, he added.
“A comprehensive training programme for a period of two weeks has been worked out for achieving the same,” Col Sombit Ghosh said. “During the exercise, participants will engage in variety of missions from joint planning, cordon and search operations, search and rescue, joint tactical drills and basics of special arms skills,” he added.
