THE ACCUSED HAD CLAIMED INNOCENCE, LEAVING THE COPS TO WAIT FOR THE POSTMORTEM REPORT TO DETERMINE THE TRUTH

JAIPUR: The post-mortem report of a dog that was dragged by a car in Udaipur district revealed that the animal died due to injuries sustained during the incident.

Station house officer of Kelva police station DP Dadich said the dog was alive while it was being dragged behind a car.

“The post-mortem report revealed that the dog died of trauma and septicemia which he suffered due to dragging for several meters behind the car.”

A man identified as Babu Khan was booked by the cops for cruelty against animals after a video of him dragging the dog behind his car went viral on social media.

The accused, however, had claimed innocence, leaving the cops to wait for the post-mortem report to determine the truth.

He was booked under section 429 (mischief by killing animal) and animal cruelty act. Some locals had claimed Khan had tied up the dog to his car and dragged it for fun, leading to its death.

When Dadich was asked about the arrest of accused he said,

“The accused was arrested and later granted bail by a local court. We will submit a chargesheet soon.”

The police were alerted after a video of the incident went viral in the local groups on social media. The cops said the video was likely made in the Shobagpura area in the city five days ago. Rights activist termed this incident as shameful and in-human. “This was an inhuman act. Dragging an innocent creature reflects sick psychology of the accused. Strict laws should be made by state so that anybody would think twice before doing such a shameful act,” said Rakesh Sharma, animals rights activist. He added that if the dog was troubling him he could have adopted some other method. But there is no justification for tying a dog.
