Those who win polls with black money can’t fight graft: CM

JODHPUR: Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot on Saturday said the entire game of politics is based on black money and those who come to power with black money cannot be expected to fight corruption.

Addressing the inaugurati­on ceremony of the building of the newly constructe­d Rajasthan High Court, Gehlot said, “The people who win elections with such black money form the government. How can such a government be expected to curb corruption. He said that political funding can be in the form of bonds, cash or checks, but this is the root of corruption.”

Gehlot said he had been in politics for 45 years and was aware of the ole of black money. A politician’s election campaign starts with black money. How can such people who win elections with black money be expected to eradicate corruption,” he said.

He said funding of political parties is based on black money and t i l l t his f unding i s not stopped, it is useless to talk about removing corruption.

Questionin­g the funding of the political parties, Gehl o t appealed to the judges of the High Judiciary that they should take suo motu cognizance and investigat­e this corruption.

He said since the President, CJI and union law minister are present, he would urge the distinguis­hed guests to consider how t r a nsparency c a n be brought into donations received by political parties.

Gehlot expressed concern over the vacancy of 29 posts of judges in the Rajasthan High Court and demanded the Chief Justice of India (CJI) to take appropriat­e steps in this regard. The CM said that due to the vacancy of the posts of judges, the number of pending cases in the High Court has exceeded four and a half lakhs.

He said the new high court building cost of Rs 277 crore and the building has 22 court rooms, but the current strength of the judges in the High Court’s Principal Bench and Jaipur Bench is only 21.

He said that the number of pending cases in the subordinat­e courts has reached 17 lakhs. When the CM said this, at that t i me s e v e n judges of the Supreme Court including the CJI were sitting on the stage.
