Eight arrested in drive against drug smugglers

JAIPUR: Baran and Jaipur city poli ce arrested ei ght drug smugglers on Sunday in two separate operations.

The Baran district police arrested four smugglers and recovered 48.60 kg of i l l i cit lanced poppy husk.

Station house officer (SHO) of Kawai police station Ram Hetar said, “On the directions of district superintendent of police, we are running a special drive against supply of restricted drugs. As a part of this drive teams were gathering information on supply of drugs especially opium and lanced poppy husk.”

Hetar added, “Acting on a tipoff, the four accused who were going towards Salpura station from Harnwada Shaji area in a four-wheeler were stopped. When they were checked, 48.60 kg l anced poppy husk was recovered. After which they were arrested under relevant s ecti on of NDPS ( Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act.”

The four arrested were identified as Vijay Singh Banjara, Lakshman Banjara, Rajesh Banjara and Mukesh Banjara. “We are questioning the four accused and are trying find out from where they had brought poppy husk i n such a l arge quantity and to whom they were going to deliver,” said the SHO.

The crime branch of Jaipur city police also arrested four alleged smugglers from different areas of the city. The four arrested accused were identified as Vinit Kumar Yadav, Chanda Sansi, Suleman Khan alias Salman and Azmat. Eight grams smack and 1.126 kg marijuana was recovered from their possession.
