KOTA : Service delivery and performance helped Bakani police station in Jhalawar district grab 7th rank among the top 10 police stations of the country, police officers said.

Bakani police station (PS) figured in the union ministry of home affairs’ (MHA) list of top 10 police stations of the country. MHA announced the list on Friday, in which Aberdeen police station of Andaman & Nicobar Islands stood at the top position.

Asked about the reasons that helped Bakani police station achieve the feat, Jhalawar SP Ram Murti Joshi said a team of MHA had come to Bakani in

November this year without prior information and talked to stakeholders; they later sought data from Jhalawar police about 19 parameters on which the police stations were ranked.

“Performance of Bakani PS on the 19 parameters of MHA formed the basis for the 7th rank,” Joshi said, adding the parameters included disposal of pending cases, preventive actions, service delivery, arrest of absconders, disposal of narcotics and illicit liquor cases, handing crimes against weaker sections, particularly SC/ST, and women, and disposal of the items recovered in crime cases lodged.

“Proper response of Bakani PS staff to the people approaching them with their complaints was also a striking aspect of their performance,” Joshi said. “The Jhalawar police appreciated the Bakani PS with rewards from time to time which helped it improve its performance further.” He said the infrastructure of PS was also taken into consideration while issuing the ranking.

Station house officer, Bakani police station, Balbeer Singh said the response time, service delivery and cordial r el at i ons between police and common people have helped the police station clinch 7th rank.

He said seven cases of burglary were lodged at the Bakani PS this year, and all were solved and stolen items recovered.

“The response of Bakani police station is good as a police team leaves the police station within 1 minute to 1.50 minutes on getting information about a crime,” said Balbeer Singh who joined Bakani police station on February 4 this year. “Police staff try to give maximum relief to people who approach the PS with grievances and complaints of crimes.”

He said, “The infrastructure of the Bakani PS is good. It has toilets, a reception room, waiting rooms, lock-up, resting rooms for police staff and other required infrastructure. Bakani PS is among oldest police stations in Jhalawar district, but its new building has been constructed around five years ago.”
