GURUGRAM: Two unidentified men, wearing helmets, allegedly snatched ₹60,000 in cash at gunpoint from a businessman in the New Colony area, about 200 metres from a police station on Saturday evening. The police said the suspects pointed a gun at the victim and fired one gunshot at a wall in an attempt to intimidate him after he refused to hand over the cash.
According to the police, the incident took place near a temple around 7.30pm when the victim, who has a wholesale business of selling carbonated drinks, was at his warehouse.
VED PAL, SHO, New Colony police station
Ved Pal, station house officer (SHO), New Colony police station, said the suspects walked up to the victim and asked him to hand over the cash.
“When he refused, one of the suspects aimed a gun at him and threatened to shoot him. To intimidate him, the suspect then fired one round, which hit a wall of the compound. The victim then took out the cash from his
pocket and gave it to the suspects, who walked away,” said SHO Pal, adding that the victim did not sustain injuries.
The police said in CCTV camera footage, the suspects could be seen wearing helmets and aiming a gun. “One of the suspects also had a backpack. It is possible that the suspects had parked a two-wheeler nearby for the escape. The suspects are yet to be identified,” said a police official privy to the investigation.
The police added that there was a strong possibility that the suspects had done a reconnaissance of the area and were aware that the victim was carrying cash.
“It is being probed if the same gang, that had snatched ₹8 lakh from a CNG pump staffer in Sector 14 on November 25, is behind this incident,” said the official cited above.
A case was registered against the suspects under sections 307 (attempt to murder) of Indian Penal CODE(IPC) and relevant sections of the Arms Act at New Colony police station on Saturday, said the police.
