Cabinet okays 5% quota to ‘more backwards’ in Baran

JAIPUR: The Rajasthan cabinet on Wednesday approved 5% reservatio­n in government jobs to More Backward Classes (MBC) and 10% to economical­ly weaker section (EWS) in Baran district.

Around 12,943 villages of 18 districts in Rajasthan have been declared flood affected.

DIPR minister Raghu Sharma told reporters that the cabinet, chaired by chief minister Ashok Gehlot, increased reservatio­n for MBC to 5% from 1% and 10% to EWS in Baran district.

In Baran, currently quota for MBC (earlier special backward class) is 1%, Sahariyas 25%, SC 8%, ST 6% and OBC 10%.

Now, the MBC will get 5% quota and EWS 10%, which will take the total reservatio­n in the district to 64%.

The minister said that from

March 31, 2020, Jan Aadhar card will replace Bhamashah card. A separate number will be created under Jan Aadhar card. The new card will be correlated with health card, which will be issued soon.

CM Ashok Gehlot had announced the Jan Aadhar Yojna in his budget speech, saying he wanted to roll out ‘One Number, One Card, One Identity’ scheme.

Around 49 lakh farmers have been affected with flood – for relief a memorandum seeking Rs 2,645 crore from the centre’s national disaster fund has been sought.

Similarly, 1,388 villages of four districts – Barmer, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur and Hanumangar­h has been declared scarcityhi­t. The state government has sent a memorandum seeking Rs 707 crore from the centre for 393,120 farmers affected by drought and crop damage, he said.

He s a i d i t has a l s o b e e n decided to name two colleges in Sangod (Kota) and Khanpur (Jhalawar) in name of soldiers killed in Pulwama terror attack, Hemraj Meena and Mukut Bihari Meena, respective­ly.

The state government will be organising various programmes for three days on its first anniversar­y.
