be made between India and China in context of economic growth, but now the government has created an atmosphere where talks of India and Pakistan are there. “What is Pakistan as compared to India? Pakistan’s prime minister has himself stated that they cannot stand in comparison to India, but now there are talks of India-pakistan,” he said.

He also alleged that the centre has significantly cut grants of the state which is a matter of concern. “States are suffering due to wrongdoings of the centre. The grants from the centre to Rajasthan have been cut by Rs 11,000 crore. How the developmental activities will take place?” he questioned.

He said that PM Modi and home minister Amit Shah have now realised that their agenda of a Congress-free India cannot be fulfilled.

Reacting over the charges, BJP spokesperson Mukesh Pareek said in the upcoming panchayat polls BJP will expose the state government’s failures in the last one year. The development has stalled, and youth and farmers have been cheated. He said the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAA) has been passed with mandate in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. Under the Bill, people tortured in the name of religion will be given citizenship. Congress is trying to mislead the minority knowing that the Bill is to give citizenship and not take it. Congress has always opposed centre’s policies just to secure their vote bank. “Congress is misleading people, which is loss to the nation,” he said.

JAIPUR: State BJP president Satish Poonia on Monday said one year of Congress rule has ruined Rajasthan with sharp rise in crimes, no development work and empty coffers due to financial mismanagement.

“The government and the chief minister swear by Gandhiji but behind the mask of Gandhi there was a litany of murders, rapes and dacoities. We are sitting before Mahatma Gandhi’s statue and demanding answers from the government,” Poonia said addressing party leaders and workers at a protest called by the BJP against one year of the Congress government at the Gandhi circle.

BJP organization leaders and MLAS including Chandrashekhar, Kalicharan Saraf, Narpat Rajvi, Rajpal Singh, Ashok Lahoty, Rao Rajendra Singh, Nirmal Kumawat, Phool Singh Bhinda, Ramanand Gurjar were present.

BJP leaders across the state sat on dharna before statues of Ambedkar and Gandhi and kept a symbolic fast to highlight the failures of the Congress government. The BJP will also release a chargesheet against the government on Tuesday, said Poonia.

He said in one year, 1,76,000 criminal cases had been filed in the state, all basic development work had stopped and the government coffers were empty due to financial mismanagement. “They have no right to celebrate one year in power. They claim Rajasthan bemisaal (incredible), we are saying Rajasthan badhal (ruined),’ said Poonia.

He said generally a government faces anti-incumbency in the third, fourth or fifth year of its tenure but the Congress is facing anti-incumbency in its very first year.

He said the Congress came to power on the promise of complete loan waiver to farmers and unemployment dole to youth. However, the government has cheated both these sections. “Around 69 lakh farmers are still waiting for loan waiver and youth are still waiting for the dole promised to them,” he said.

“Farmers, youth, sarpanchs contract workers, students are all staging protests across the state against the failed promises of the government,” he said

Poonia said the government had come to power on a shaky mandate winning only 99 of 200 seats and was dependent on support from the independents and the six BSP MLAS. He said the government and CM Ashok Gehlot were dependent on goodwill from the Congress party high command. “The chief minister has to keep going to Delhi to pay his respects at the Delhi Durbar else he will lose his seat,” said Poonia.

Poonia said the BJP would continue its protests and hold the government to account on its failures. He said the party would hold a statewide protest against the state government refusing to implement the Citizenship Amendment Act.

“The CAA is one of the landmark decisions of the BJP government like the triple talaq, the abrogation of article 370 and the supreme court judgement which has paved the way for construction of the Ram Temple. But the Congress due to its policy of appeasement is opposing the act which is unfortunate” said Poonia. He said Gehlot should clarify his stand on implementing the CAA and added that it was the CM who had given citizenship to 65,000 Pakistani Hindu migrants in his earlier tenure.

Congress spokesperson Archana Sharma said the BJP’S protest was mere tokenism.

“The BJP has no real grounds to protest. The Congress government has been working for the welfare of the people and people are happy with the government,” she said.

She said BJP is in opposition but its approach is negative. ‘Instead of giving constructive criticism they are protesting for the sake of protest.”
