NEWDELHI: Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia on Tuesday trained guns on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and said that the welfare schemes of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government have come as a relief to the people of the city at a time when inflation level is soaring.

Sisodia also criticised remarks made by some of senior BJP leaders that indicated that the party might do away with the current subsidies if they are voted to power.

The BJP, however, dismissed Sisodia’s allegations.

“Each vote for the BJP will be for costlier electricity, water, healthcare... Each vote for BJP will be for inflation,” said Sisodia.

He further said, “The BJP leaders have said they will end AAP government’s free subsidy schemes, which will further add to the burden on people.”

Sisodia’s remarks came a day after a massive rise in food prices lifted India’s December retail inflation to a 65-month-high to 7.35 per cent — from 5.54 per cent in November.

Similarly, the Consumer Food

Price Index (CFPI) rose to 14.12 per cent during the month under review from an expansion of 10.01 per cent in November 2019 and (-) 2.65 per cent rise was reported for the corresponding period of last year.

Responding to the allegations, senior BJP leader and New Delhi member of Parliament Meenakshi Lekhi said, “The AAP government in Delhi is frustated ahead of the elections and so they are making baseless claims.

“Inflation has gone down across India after the BJP came to power. In Delhi, Kejriwal’s government has increased tariffs and has been misleading people with temporary subsidies.

“His decisions on the economic front have contributed to unstable prices of essential goods in the market.”
