18 drug peddlers arrested, 18.10kg marijuana seized
JAIPUR: In six different operations by the city police on Tuesday, 18 alleged drug peddlers were arrested from six police station areas from whom 18.10 kg marijuana was recovered, police said.
Jaipur city commissioner of police (CP) Anand Shrivastava said that as part of ‘Operation Clean Sweep’, the crime branch with teams of police stations is working to make the Pink City free from drugs.
“Making Jaipur drug-free is also the top priority of the city police for the year 2020. Acting on the information on peddlers active in the Jhotwara police station area, Harmara, Jaipur Sadar, Kardhani, Bhatta Basti, Bagru, Galta Gate, Transport Nagar, Jawahar Nagar and Kanota, the local police stations arrested 18 marijuana peddlers,” said Shrivastava.
Along with drug peddling, some accused were active in selling illicit liquor. “In Murlipura area, Vishwakarma area, Kardhani area, Bagru area and Nahargrah area seven were arrested for selling illicit liquor. From their possession, 60 cartoons of illicit liquor were recovered,” the CP said.
Out of the 18, the major catch was from Jaipur Sadar police station area where three peddlers and three receivers caught.
Additional deputy commissioner of police, crime branch, Vimal Singh said that from the possession these six accused 7.1 kg marijuana was recovered. “The gang members would buy marijuana from Odisha and supply it to local peddlers,” he said.
Since launch of the operation on October 23,cases were registered under sections of the NDPS Act till January 21 and 236 smugglers have been arrested.
The operation includes three major phases being run simultaneously. In the first phase, peddlers are being identified, in the second, sources and network are being identified and in the last phase, rehabilitation of addicts is being done through NGOS, doctors and other experts.
