JAIPUR: The Jaipur police has issued orders to all marriage garden owners to install CCTV cameras and to get police verification of all their employees and caterers, following the alleged rape of a 10-year-old at a marriage garden in the city on Sunday.

Anand Shrivastava, commissioner of police, Jaipur said the order has been issued keeping in mind the security of people. “The station house officers of all police stations have been directed to verify the identity of local vendors, marriage garden owners, caterers and other marriage function related service providers and their staff. The staff have also been directed to sport identity badges during the entire time of the function,” said Shrivasatava. “People who violate the order will be booked under section 188 of the IPC,” said Shrivastava. “The order will be binding on 700 marriage gardens across the city. The police will conduct surprise inspections to find out if the CCTV cameras have been installed,” he said.

Legal e xpert Shantanu Sharma said that anybody booked under section 188 of the IPC, for violating an order issued by a public servant can attract a jail term of up to six months. “If disobedience of an order passed by a public servant endangers the lives of others then the accused can be punished with imprisonment up to six months, or with fine up to ~1,0000, or both,” he said. Meanwhile, the police on Monday had arrested Raju Rajput, 36, the accused who allegedly raped the minor following a marathon investigation lasting about 20 hours. The accused is a resident of Bhind in Madhya Pradesh. Kavendra Sagar, deputy commissioner of police, Jaipur West said the police came to know about the incident at around 10 pm on Sunday and went through all the CCTV footages at the venue. “Until 5am, our officers scanned CCTV footages and video recordings of the ceremonies, and officers from forensic science laboratory screened 50 workers to zero in on the accused on the basis of semen and blood samples,” said DCP.

The girl had come to the marriage garden in Murlipura for an engagement ceremony when her uncle found her bleeding from her private parts in the toilet. Initially, the family members had thought that she may have slipped in the bathroom and got injured. But when we took her to hospital, doctors told us that she had been raped.

She was taken to JK Lon hospital where doctors performed a two-hour long surgery on her for the injuries she sustained in the attack. “She is now out of danger,” doctors said.

The accused has been sent to police custody.
