Churu rape case: 2 cops suspended for laxity, accused nabbed, sent to jail

JAIPUR: District superinten­dent of police (SP) Tejasvani Gautam has suspended two personnel for laxity that led to the escape of the accused of Churu rape from police custody on Tuesday night. The accused, however were nabbed a few hours later.

Gautam said the accused was nabbed on Tuesday before noon. “The accused, kept under custody of head constable Girdhari Lal and constable Balveer, fled the spot after they both went out of the room. This is a case of serious negligence. The accused tried to flee via inter-connected terraces and was caught again around 6pm. Because of this laxity, they were suspended,” she said. Meanwhile, the accused was presented before a local court in Churu from where he has been sent to judicial custody. “The accused confessed to his crime and was presented before the court from where he was sent to judicial custody. FSL team and investigat­ors have collected samples from the spot. Further investigat­ion is on.”

Meanwhile, the investigat­ion in the case has been transferre­d to Churu deputy superinten­dent Sukhwinder Pal Singh. The Churu SP said that the charge sheet would be presented within a few days after which it would be taken under officer scheme so that the trial could be completed quickly and the accused could be convicted.

Meanwhile, a 10-year-old girl was also allegedly raped by a man in Churu on Monday night. He allegedly tried to kill her. The 22-year-old accused who lives 300 metres away from the victim’s house falling under the limits of Rajgarh police station allegedly lured her around 10pm on Monday in the pretext of giving choclate and raped her.

After the sexual assault, the accused attacked the girl with a stone with an aim to kill her. The girls sustained serious injuries on her head. He left her assuming to be dead. The family found her a few hours later and informed the police.

He said the accused was arrested. Police have registered a case of kidnapping, rape and attempt to murder under sections of IPC and the POSCO Act on the complaint of the victim’s father.
