JAIPUR: The station house officer (SHO) of Brahmpuri police station in Jaipur was suspended on Wednesday, a day after a state cabinet minister approached the Congress party’s jan sunwai (public hearing) to get an FIR registered after the local police allegedly refused to register a murder case.

Jaipur city police commissioner Anand Shrivastava, passed the order of the SHO’S suspension on Tuesday.

“Bharat Singh Rathore, the SHO of Brahmpuri police station, has been suspended by the commissioner on Tuesday,” said Rajiv Pachar, deputy commissioner of police, North.

When Rathore was contacted f or hi s r eacti on, he di dn’t respond.

On Tuesday, industry minister Parsadi Lal Meena reached the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) office, along with a complainant from his assembly constituency Lalsot (Dausa), whose daughter was allegedly murdered on January 28.

At the PCC office, Meena and the complainant, Sanwal Ram, submitted a complaint to the UDH Minister Shanti Dhariwal, who was holding a public hearing. The complainant stated that her daughter (Papita), married in 2012, was residing in Khor area near Jamwa Ramgarh, Jaipur. The complainant alleged that his daughter was murdered and cremated without informing them.

“The complainant is from my constituency and her daughter is murdered. The station house officer of the concerned police station denied lodging FIR. Now, the complaint has been made here (PCC office) to get it registered,” Meena had told reporters at the PCC office.

He said the SHO had called the complainant on Monday, but now has gone on leave. “The complainant is a poor man and to get the complaint lodged, the application is sent through PCC,” he said.

When asked if a cabinet minister himself had to come to file the FIR, then what will be the plight of the common man, he said, “It

is a matter of concern, if an FIR isn’t registered,” adding that action will be taken against the SHO.

However, the minister said that he has not spoken to the police commissioner. “Reporting the case is the first priority. He is a poor person and is not well connected in Jaipur, so the report is being sent through the PCC,” he said.

The complainant said, “I am not sure who killed my daughter, but t he suspicion i s on her in-laws’ family. For the last 4-5 days the police are making us run from pillar to post without lodging a complaint.”

Rajasthan government, led by chief minister Ashok Gehlot, last year started registration of FIRS at the office of Superintendent of Police, if police stations don’t register a complaint.
