Hi-tech ICU unit comes up at JL Lon hospital of Kota
KOTA: In the wake of infant deaths at government’s JK Lon Hospital in Kota recently, a new Emergency Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) has been created and a centralised oxygen line has been laid in two emergency units for newly born at the hospital.
The PICU has also been made operational, said Dr SC Dulara, the superintendent of JK Lon Hospital.
He said the Public Works Department (PWD) has transformed an old ward into the Emergency PICU unit within a month time by working day and night. “New Emergency PICU has 12 beds, which, along with the other 12 beds in the old PICU unit, has augmented the beds to 24,” he said. “The new PICU unit will ease load on the existing old PICU units, as many a time children had to share the beds,” he added.
Ailing kids in the age group of 28 days to 18 years can be admitted in the new Emergency PICU unit, he said.
The Emergency PICU units has all required medical equipment including the newly laid centralised oxygen line, ventilators, pulse oxymeter, suction machine, infusion pump, multi parameter and others. “We have started admitting patients in the new PICU,” he said.
When asked about the expenditure on creation of new PICU unit, Dr Dulara said that PWD has done the work and now it will prepare estimate of the work.
Also, a separate duty room for the doctors has been created adjacent to the new PICU unit.
Urban Development and Housing Minister and MLA from Kota North, Shanti Dhariwal has sanctioned Rs 1.80 crores from his MLA Local area development (LAD) fund for the purchase of life saving equipment and renovation of the hospital.
Rajasthan government has already announced to spend Rs 67 crores for the establishment of 156 bed hospital and OPD block of JK Lon Hospital.
