Bikaner police stations to feature on Google maps

BIKANER: The police stations and offices of police authorities in 4 districts of Bikaner police range will soon be visible on Google maps to help people find the nearest police station. Till now, people had to depend on other sources to find which police station was near their homes or offices. Often, they had to visit several of these before they could file a complaint due to jurisdiction issues.
Even cops said it had caused delays in action in some cases in the past, like road accidents. The service is expected to help find a solution to these problems. Inspector General of Police (IGP) Bikaner range Jose Mohan said that the idea of mapping (tagging) police stations on Google maps will help the locals as well as the visitors, who use the app while they are travelling, in case they need police assistance.
The IGP has asked the police superintendents of Bikaner, Churu, Hanumangarh and Sriganganagar districts to spot all 93 police stations in their respective jurisdiction on Google maps at the earliest. “To locate a police station, users will now be able to mention their location or point it out on a map. The map will also show the distance to the police station from the given address,” he said.
Superintendents are also asked to furnish details like address of police station, email ID, name and phone number of SHO and under which district the given police station is placed.
IGP Jose Mohan said that the officers are asked to assign the constables or head constables for the mapping task. it will help our personals in learning the mapping technique and they can use it for tagging a accident prone spot or a crime scene for the future reference and making them tech-savvy is included in our police priorities for the yearset by police headquarter- he added.
There are more than 200 locations of 24x7 police presence in the Bikaner range which will be displayed on map including police stations, out posts, circle and ASP offices and police check posts.
