JAIPUR: Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Wednesday demanded that Union home minister Amit Shah should resign on moral grounds given his inaction during incidents of violence in Delhi and his inability to control the situation.

In series of tweets, he stated that Congress president Sonia Gandhi has rightly demanded home minister’s resignation. “The home minister should resign on moral grounds as he did nothing to save lives and restore normalcy. Delhi has been burning and we see no action from Home Minister,” he tweeted.

“What we are witnessing in Delhi is a result of inflammatory speeches and provocative statements given by BJP leaders. They have purposely created a vicious environment of hatred and fear. Worst is the authorities remain a mute spectator and are doing nothing to control the situation,” he said.

Gehlot also tweeted that US president Trump’s comments on visitors book in Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad has hurt the reputation of the country.

“Earlier in US, Trump had addressed PM Narendra Modi as ‘Father of Nation’ and this time during his visit to Sabarmati Ashram, he did not mention a single word about Mahatma Gandhi in the visitor’s book,” he said.

He continued, “This is an attempt to demeaning Mahatma Gandhi’s contribution towards peace and harmony. Why plan a visit to Gandhi ashram when one has no respect for his ideals. This is an insult to our nation and a blow to our image globally.”

Expressing concern on violence in Delhi, addressing newspersons after an event today, Gehlot said it was the result of polarization, which was done during the time of Delhi assembly elections.

He said that that social harmony in a nation depends on economy. “A campaign was run in Delhi elections for polarization. They could not succeed that time because public taught them a lesson but it the result of the campaign which entire world is seeing now,” he said while targeting BJP.
