Girl student hangs self

BHARATPUR: The body of a 17-yearold girl student, who allegedly hanged self in her hostel room at Nadbai in Bharatpur district, was handed over to family members after a post-mortem examinatio­n on Saturday, police said.

The girl was a Class 12 student at a senior secondary residentia­l school in Nadbai. She was found hanging from a fan in her hostel room of the private school on Friday by other students and the warden, police said.

The school director took her to district Raj Bahadur Memorial Hospital in Bharatpur, 40 km from Nadbai,where doctors declared her dead and kept the body in mortuary.

“We reached the hospital after getting informatio­n that a girl student committed suicide in hostel. Family members of the deceased were called to Bharatpur. The body was handed over to the family by doctors after autopsy,” said Duli Chand, station house officer of Nadbai police station. “Inquiry will be done after the kin file a complaint.”

School owner Himanshu Katara, a local Congress leader, refused to comment over the suicide.

The girl hailed from Dhanora village of Dholpur district and had been studying in the school from Class 6. She was to appear for the state board examinatio­n which begins from March 5.

An uncle of the girl said, “She had spoken to family members some days back. She said she wanted to do a basic schoolteac­her course after schooling.”

Nadbai MLA Jogendra Singh Awana raised the suicide in the a s s e mbl y o n F r i d a y a n d sought an investigat­ion into the incident.
