11 killed, three injured in road accident on Jodhpur highway
TRAGEDY Five women and a child among the dead, three injured undergo treatment; PM and CM pay condolences
JODHPUR: At least 11 people were ki l l e d and t hree s e r i ously injured after a truck and another vehicle carrying passengers collided near Sointra village on the Phalodi-balotra highway in Jodhpur district on Saturday, police said.
Among the dead were five women and a child, the police said, adding that the injured were undergoing treatment at MDM Hospital. The hospital authorities confirmed t hat three injured in the accident were being treated at the hospital.
The victims, all residents of Barmer district, were going to Ramdevra in a Bolero Camper when the accident took place near Sointra village on the Phalodi-balotra Megha highway. A large number of people, including villagers, gathered at the accident site.
After getting the information, police and administration officials rushed to the spot and started the rescue operation. Local public representatives also reached the spot.
A crane was used to separate t he mangled v e hi c l e s a nd extract the bodies, the police said. Locals also helped in the rescue operation, they added.
The deceased were identified as Jagdish, Kailash, Kishore, Priyanka, Preetkishor, Vimla, Rashu, Seeta, Vikram, Dimple

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed anguish over the incident.

Ashok Gehlot condoled the deaths. “Deeply saddened to learn about tragic accident on Balotra-phalodi Mega Highway in Shergarh area, Jodhpur in which 11 people have lost lives. My heartfelt condolences to those who lost their loved ones, may God give them strength to bear this loss. I wish speedy recovery to injured,” Gehlot tweeted.
