One arrested for robbing, killing 75-yr-old woman

JAIPUR: A day after a 75-year-old woman was stoned to death, the city police on Saturday claimed to have solved the murder case.

Deputy commission­er of police (DCP), West, Kavendra Sagar said that on Friday, the police had received informatio­n that a woman’s body was lying at an isolated place in Nevta village opposite to a petrol pump. After that a team of forensic science laboratory, dog squad and s enior poli ce of f i ci al s was rushed to the spot.

“The lady’s face was brutally hit by a stone and the deceased was identified as Badami Devi (75). A special team, was formed to crack the case. The team analyzed the CCTV (closed circuit television) footage of Vidyadhar Nagar area where deceased lived. In the CCTV footage, she was seen going towards Nevta via Sez police station area with an unidentifi­ed man,” said Sagar.

The DCP said that the picture of the man was showed to the woman’s family members and people in nearby areas.

“On the basis of statements of the family members, people in nearby areas and other evidences, the accused was identified and arrested from Chomu police station area,” the officer added.

The accused was identified as Ravi Saini (32).

“He used to work at a shop owned by the woman’s son. Both were familiar to each other. Saini on Friday offered lift to Devi on his bike saying he will make her visit a Jain temple in Nevta,” said Sagar.

“Saini, however, stopped the bike at isolated place and tried to rob the lady and when she resisted he killed her and fled stealing the valuable ornaments Devi was wearing,” The DCP added.
