2.38L violated traffic law in 3 years, 66% didn’t pay fines: Data

JAIPUR: More than 66.16% traffic violators, who were caught speeding or riding without helmet on camera, didn’t pay fines despite receiving notices from the traffic police.

On Sunday, two persons were run over by an over-speeding city transport bus in Jaipur city on Sunday afternoon at 1.35pm on Tonk Road close to Kamal and Sons Company opposite to glass factory.

The victims were on a bike and suddenly a city transport bus coming from behind lost the control and mowed down the duo.

According to official figures of city traffic police between 2017 and 2019, 2,38, 994 people were caught overspeedi­ng through speed radar cameras and were delivered e-challans; out of which only 1,57,995 people have not paid the fines.

In 2017, 89,414 were caught overspeedi­ng, out of which 73,652 didn’t pay fines; in 2018, 96,556 were caught overspeedi­ng, out of which 67,994 didn’t pay fines and in 2019, 52,994 were found driving fast, but 26,399 didn’t pay fines.

Additional deputy commission­er of police (addl CP), traffic, Rahul Prakash said that the cameras are placed across six spots on three localities. These six spots are three on JLN Marg, two on Tonk road and one in Vaisali Nagar.

“The permitted speed in these areas is 40 km per hour for twowheeler­s and 50 km per hour for four-wheelers. Those who violate speeding norms are sent a challan of Rs 400 and licence is

When the addl CP traffic was asked about action against those not paying the fines, he said, “In last two years, that is 2018 and 2019, we have written to transport department to cancel the licence of 19,272 people. Also, we have forwarded these cases to Lok Adalats.”

Mewnahile, in last two years, the Jaipur city recorded the highest number of deaths in road accidents in last two year -2018 and 2019 followed by Jaipur rural, Udaipur, Nagaur and Sikar, reveals the official data of the police department.

In the year 2018, 2781 accidents were reported from Jaipur city in which 692 people were killed.

In 2019, 3045 accidents were reported from the capital in which 721 people lost their lives.

Jaipur city police has been divided into four police districts, which are Jaipur East, Jaipur North, Jaipur South and Jaipur West.
