Suspended AAP councillor Tahir Hussain held for IB officer’s murder

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Police on Monday arrested suspended Aam Aadmi Party councillor Tahir Hussain from a court here in connection with the alleged killing of Intelligen­ce Bureau official Ankit Sharma during the recent communal violence in northeast Delhi.

The police has sought fiveday custody of Hussain before Chief Metropolit­an Magistrate Pawan Singh Rajawat.

Hussain was booked for his alleged role in the murder of the IB staffer during the communal riots that rocked the city last month.

The family of Sharma, 26, who was found dead in a drain near his home in riot-hit Chand Bagh area, has accused Hussain of being behind the killing. As per the post-mortem report, Sharma sustained 51 injuries and died due to haemorrhag­e.

On the complaint of Sharma’s father, the police registered FIR a g a i nst Hussain, who has rejected the charges.

Hussain’s brother, Shah Alam, was also arrested in connection with the riots and is currently in judicial custody.

The on Saturday said they had arrested five more people in connection with the murder.

The police had made the first breakthrou­gh in Sharma’s murder case when they arrested a suspect, identified as Salman, from north-east Delhi on Thursday. Saturday’s arrest of five t ook t he number of people nabbed for the murder to six.

The police, however, are yet to recover the weapons that were used to stab Sharma multiple times. At least four suspects have been identified while the sketches of two unidentifi­ed suspects have been prepared.
