Nearly half of Rajasthan population screened for Covid-19: Minister

JAIPUR: Almost 45% of state’s population have been screened for Sars-cov-2, the virus that causes Covid-19, in a door-to-door exercise, said health minister Raghu Sharma on Monday.

There are 194 people in isolation wards across the state, he added.

Meanwhile, three new cases tested positive in the state on Monday, taking the state’s Covid-19 tally to 62. This does not include the seven positive cases from among the Indians who were evacuated from Iran and are in quarantine facilities of the Army in Jodhpur and Jaisalmer.

Two of the three positive cases are a 70-year-old mother and her 21-year-old son from Ramganj in Jaipur, who are already under treatment. The third patient is a 40-year-old man Bhilwara, who has been an OPD patient of Bangar Hospital.

Bhilwara, with 26 cases, continues to be the district with maximum number of positive cases, followed by Jaipur, which has 12 and Jhunjhunu with seven cases.

The health minister said in 20 di s t r i c t s , where Covid- 1 9 patients have been found, 2,990 samples have been tested so far, out of which 2,715 tested negative. Across the state, the number of samples tested so far is 4,837, out of which 4,322 have tested negative and 453 are under process, he said.

Sharma said 26,793 active surveillan­ce teams have screened 29.24 million people of 7.15 million families. Apart from this, 2.78 million people have been screened during passive surveillan­ce in hospital OPDS (outpatient department), he said.

“During contact tracing of positive cases, 1,600 people have been identified to have contacted the people who have tested positive so far.”

The health minister said against the state’s target of 100,000 quarantine beds, 64,796 beds were ready. “There are 13,799 beds in isolation wards across the state.”

Talking about safety kits to doctors and paramedica­l staff in isolation wards, Sharma said there were 9,444 PPE kits and 52,791 N-95 masks in the state. There’s a buffer stock of 2,739 PPE kits and 36,420 N-95 masks.

The health department said in a statement that 14 of the positive cases had turned negative but they will be declared safe only after 14 days of their infection.

The statement said four Covid-19 patients had been discharged from hospital, and this included one Italian national who died after he was declared free of the infection and shifted to a private hospital for other illness.
