JODHPUR: Seven people, who were evacuated from Iran and kept in army wellness centres in Jodhpur and Jaisalmer, tested positive for Covid-19 on Monday, said officials.
On March 25 and 29, a total of 552 evacuees were brought to Jodhpur from Iran. All 277 evacuees of the first batch tested negative in Iran on March 20, said health department officials.
Defence spokesperson Col Sombit Ghosh said the evacuated people were screened at Jodhpur airport upon arrival and taken to the army wellness facility. “All precautions had been undertaken for their reception, boarding and lodging. All evacuees are quarantined based on their age, gender and family relations,” he added.
A 41-year-old man and his mother complained of flu-like symptoms on March 29. They were sent to MDM Hospital in Jodhpur. A statement from the health department on Monday morning said the man has tested positive and the mother is negative for the viral infection.
In the afternoon, six persons housed in quarantine at Jaisalmer Wellness Center tested positive at AIIMS, Jodhpur.
