16 shelter homes set up in Jaipur

JAIPUR: A day after the Centre directed state government­s to set up temporary shelters f or migrants, the state government on Monday ordered all district collectors to establish shelters for them.

In Jaipur, 16 shelters with a capacity to keep 5,000 people have been set up, officials said. Currently, there are about 2,000 migrants in Jaipur, they added.

Additional chief secretary of home department Rajeeva Swarup said: “All district collectors are on the job and necessary directions have been given to set up temporary shelters. As per the requiremen­t, the collectors will make temporary shelters on the highways and transit routes.”

He said all the migrants will be quarantine­d at the shelters and necessary facilities such as food, water and screening by doctors will be provided. The collectors have been asked to deploy officials at every shelter for effective monitoring of the facilities.

On Sunday, the union home secretary directed states to ensure adequate arrangemen­ts of temporary shelters and provision of food for the poor and needy people, including migrant labourers, stranded due to the lockdown in their respective areas.

In Jaipur, district collector Jogaram said around 16 temporary shelter homes have been set up. In addition to the identified shelter homes, nearby buildings have also been reserved in case of any exigency.

He said the temporary shelters have been set up in structures such as schools and community halls. Migrants will be quarantine­d at the shelters and food and screening facility will be there.

The 16 buildings identified in the district are at Adarsh Nagar, Paladi Meena, Panipech, Gandhi Nagar, Malviya Nagar, Subhash Chowk, Heerapura Bypass (Ajmer Road), Ramgarh Road, Khol ke Hanumanji dharashala and Sodala. He said till date screening of 1.5 million people has been done.

Meanwhile, the Jaipur district administra­tion under t he National Disaster Management Act and Rajasthan Epidemic Diseases Act has reserved 84 hospitals in the district. The reserved hospitals on requiremen­t will be used as isolation and quarantine centres. The hospitals have 9,377 beds, which can be used in emergency.
