Medical college in Kota collates data from hospital to study Covid-19
KOTA: The Government Medical College, Kota, will conduct research on coronavirus disease (Covid-19) on the basis of data gathered from patients being treated at a dedicated hospital, the college principal said on Saturday.
Faculty members of the medical college are involved in the t reatment of t he Covid- 19 patients at the dedicated hospital in Kota, which is affiliated to the college. “Although the coronavirus outbreak is unfortunate, it is also a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for research on the pandemic. The Government Medical College, Kota has decided to do research on the disease since a number of patients are being treated at the Covid-19 hospital,” said Dr Vijay Sardana, principal of the medical college.
“We will seek approval from ethical committee of Government Medical College, Kota, f or research on Covid-19 in the hospital. The research will help the medical fraternity if any other epidemic or pandemic breaks out in future,” he said. “We will compile data on profile of patients, including the age group, changes in ECG of patients after use of Hydroxychloroquine, clinical profile, psychosocial aspects and pulse oxymeter in Covid-19 treatment,” Dr Sardana said.
There are 233 Covid-19 patients in the dedicated hospital of Kota, of whom 183 have tested negative twice, he said. “Ten Covid-19 patients have died in Kota so far; however, the recovery rate of Covid-19 patients is high in Kota.”
Dr Sardana said the Government Medical College Kota has sought approval from the Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) for starting plasma therapy for Covid-19 cure. “Only 1-2% Covid-19 patients become serious and need ventilator support, for whom plasma therapy can be a treatment option,” he said.
