Cyber cell helps refund ₹1.5 lakh stolen from four in online fraud

JAIPUR: The cyber cell of Jaipur city police on Friday successful­ly refunded around ₹1.5 lakh in bank accounts of four people who were allegedly robbed online by hackers.

Jaipur city police commission­er Anand Shrivastav­a said in the past two day, ₹1.80 lakh were duped f r om t he bank accounts of four people through different mediums.

On May 7, a case was registered at cyber police station by a man who was duped of ₹99,990 in three different transactio­ns. The victim was called by an unknown person who pretended as his relative and asked him to open a link. As soon as the accused opened the link, money was deducted from his accounts.

Similarly, another man was trapped in the same manner in Bajaj Nagar police station area of ₹40,000, another man was duped of ₹13,000 in the similar style in SEZ area.

In another cheating case, a person’s social media account was hacked and ₹20,000 was wit hdrawn f r o m hi s b a nk account.

“Seeing the seriousnes­s of the case, a special team was formed to nab the accused,” said Shrivastav­a.

Additional commission­er of police, Ashok Gupta (crime) said the cyber cell was doing online surveillan­ce and monitoring to keep a check on rumours and online hacking.

“The cyber cell doing online investigat­ion was successful in refunding the money in the accounts of the victims. The accounts in which the money was transferre­d were freezed,” Gupta said.

Additional deputy commission­er of police, crime, Vimal Singh said the hackers created fake interface of reputed online money transfer applicatio­n. “The cyber cell analysed 70 to 80 accounts and studied the gateways to get rid of the accounts,” said Singh.
