13 disaster response men test +ve in Odisha

BHUBANESWA­R: Odisha registered the death of another COVID-19 patient taking the death toll to 11, while the state reported 186 fresh cases, a health department official said on Sunday.

A 50-year male COVID-19 patient of Ganjam district died while undergoing treatment at a hospital, a statement said.

The patient was also suffering from diabetes, hypertensi­on, chronic kidney disease and chronic obstructiv­e pulmonary disease, the official said.

Following the latest death, the total fatalities in the state due to COVID-19 rose to 11 -- six from Ganjam, four from Khurda and one from Cuttack district, the official said, Three other COVID-19 patients have also died in the state, but their deaths were attributed to other reasons.

Among the fresh cases are 13 members of the disaster response teams who returned from Kolkata after cyclone ‘Amphan’ restoratio­n works. With this, the number of disaster response personnel getting infected with the virus has increased to 149 in Odisha.

Of the new cases, 171 patients were detected from quarantine centres where the returnees from different states are lodged. The new cases were detected from 20 districts, the official said.

The maximum number of cases was reported from Kandhamal where 22 people were found positive for COVID-19, followed by 21 in Khurda, 16 each in Kalahandi and Bargarh, 15 in Gajapati, 13 in Mayurbhanj, 12 each in Jajpur and Cuttack.

The total number of cases in the state rose to 3,909, while 2,594 patients have so far recovered from the disease.
