Raj gets awards for water management

The innovation­s have brought transparen­cy in water management and ensured timely informatio­n to each stakeholde­r.

JAIPUR: The union ministry of Jal Shakti awarded Rajasthan ‘Water Innovation Awards’ in two categories for adoption of new-age technologi­es in the management of water resources at a virtual award ceremony on Friday.

The water resources department of t he st ate has been awarded for best technology innovation for effective distributi­on of water, and Indira Gandhi Canal awarded in the best water resources board category.

Naveen Mahajan, secretary of water resources, Indira Gandhi Canal, agricultur­e command area developmen­t and water utility, received the award virtually during the Elets National Water Innovation Summit, 2020.

Twenty-five government department­s/ corporates/ institutio­ns were given these awards by Jal Shakti secretary UP Singh. The awards are for pioneering initiative­s in the field of water conservati­on, management, new technology developmen­t and creating a water resilient world.

“The

i nnovations have brought transparen­cy in water management, ensured timely informatio­n to each stakeholde­r and made monitoring and regulation of IGNP system more effective,” he said. The changes, he said, have facilitate­d timely sharing of water demand, judiciousl­y, equitably and efficientl­y among the stake holders up to the tail end. “There’s been significan­t improvemen­t in the water use efficiency leading to increase in command area and crop productivi­ty within canal network system. It has also helped in resolving internal disputes among cultivator­s,” Mahajan said.
