RAS officer’s kin strangulated to death in Jaipur
JAIPUR: A Rajasthan Administrative Services (RAS) officer’s sister was murdered in Jaipur city on Monday, police said.
Police suspect the 55-yearold woman, Vidya Devi, resident of sector 23 in Mansarovar, falling under Shipra Path police station area, was strangulated to death by someone known to her. However, motive of the murder is not clear, the police said.
“Devi was a widow and used to live in her three bedroom house alone. Around 7am, she had collected milk at her door steps and neighbours had also seen her. An hour letter, when her colleagues called, she didn’t respond, after which they informed her brother Sharma (RAS officer Yugantar Sharma) and when he reached the spot, police was informed too,” said Anand Shrivastava, commissioner of police (CP), Jaipur city.
When policemen entered the house around 10.15am, they found the woman’s hands and legs were tied with a stole on a railing of the house and she was dead. “Prima facie, it appears the woman was strangulated. However, the medical report will reveal the exact cause of death. But clearly there were no visible signs of resistance and nothing was stolen from the house, which indicates Devi was killed by someone known,” Shrivsatava said.
