Officers: Constables get annual ₹7k for uniforms, but inspectors get ₹96
DGP ML LATHER SAID THAT HE WAS AWARE OF THE DISCREPANCY IN ALLOWANCES
FOR UNIFORMS
JAIPUR: A police constable in Rajasthan gets ₹7,000 as allowance for uniforms every year, but sub-inspectors to inspectors get ₹96 and deputy superintendents of police to additional superintendents of police ₹343.
IPS officers get ₹20,000 for uniforms every year.
On the wide gap in the allowances, police department officials said constables and head constables were not getting uniform allowance earlier as they were provided with cloth for stitching. When the quality of the cloth was questioned, the present government started giving them cash for uniforms.
“Constables, head constables and assistant sub-inspectors are getting uniform allowance of ₹7,000 every year. IPS officers are given ₹20,000 per year. But the four levels of officers between ASI and IPS are getting very less allowance,” a senior police official said.
“Sub-inspectors and inspectors get ₹2,400 for uniform when they join the posts. After that, ₹675 is given as uniform allowance every seven years, which means an average of ₹96 every year. Similarly, DSPS and addl SPS are given ₹2,400 every seven years, which comes to an annual average of ₹343.”
He said officers from SIS to addl SPS do not show interest in claiming the allowance as it’s a pittance.
“Some SIS , inspectors, DSPS and addl SPS have approached
IPS officers of the department over the discrepancy in the uniform allowance. On this, the police headquarters has sent a proposal to the government. The current allowance was set in 2013, after which it has not been increased. An allowance of ₹1000 per year has been demanded from the government,” the police official said.
Director-general of police ML Lather said that he was aware of the discrepancy in allowances for uniforms. “No matter what the rank of a policeman is, there should be a uniformity in uniform allowance. We are looking into the issue,” he said.
