JAIPUR: The criminal intelligence department (CID) of state police has launched a hunt to trace out 684 Pakistanis living illegally in different parts of Rajasthan.

The Union Home Ministry has shared a list of 684 Pakistani nationals with the Rajasthan Home Department. These are the people who have come to Rajasthan, but there present location is unknown.

HT has a copy of the directions given to eight district collectors by the home department.

“The union home ministry has submitted a list of 684 Pakistani nationals to the Rajasthan home department. These are the people who have come to state but their present location is unknown to anyone and police has started searching for them,” said a police official.

The official added that instructions have been given to respective district collectors regarding illegal citizens residing in the state through video conferencing.

“Those living illegally should be identified and appropriate action should be taken against them. Not only this, those people who are living in restricted area without any permission, they should be instructed to leave the restricted area immediately,” the police official said.

Actually, these are the people who have come on the long term visa (LTV), but they are missing from the place where they have got permission to come.

The Central Home Department has sought the information of all these people from the state government, after which the home department has intervened.

It is worth mentioning that state government is empowered to grant extensions on LTV on two-year basis to engage themselves in employment of purely private nature i.e. excluding government, local bodies, cooperative jobs etc.

In 2016, the Union Home Ministry had given powers to district magistrates and state home secretaries to grant citizenship to Hindu minorities who have migrated to India from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.

The Rajasthan high court in 2017 questioned the state government over the delay in granting citizenship to the migrants, saying that they were not able to avail of facilities or stay here as citizens of this country.
