THREE HELD FOR CROSS-BORDER SMUGGLING IN GANGANAGAR

-

BIKANER: With the arrest of three persons, Sri Ganganagar police on Sunday claimed to have cracked a module of crossborder smuggling of narcotics.

Police said during investigation that followed a smuggling bid foiled by Border Security Force at Madanlal Chowki of Hindumalkot Post near the international border during the intervening night of February 7-8, they found that some locals from Dularpurkeri village used to go at zero line to collect narcotics or arms dropped by Pakistani smugglers and then delivered them to other people.

Sri Ganganagar superintendent of police (SP) Rajan Dushyant told HT that a packet of heroin had been recovered on the intervening night of February 7-8 when the BSF noticed the suspicious movement on the international border.

The smugglers across the border also opened fire on BSF while dropping the consignment. The BSF also retaliated in an exchange of fire and the accused, taking the advantage of darkness, managed to escape with five packets of heroin leaving behind one packet of heroin, which was recovered by BSF during the search operation, the SP said.

A case was registered at Hindumalkot police station against suspects Satnam Singh, Mukhtyar Singh of Dularpurkeri village and others.

During investigation, police found that five Punjab residents were also involved. The police then confirmed the involvement of Lakhvindar Singh, Satnam Singh and Balvindar Singh of Punjab in the conspiracy and they were arrested.
