JODHPUR: The Covid second wave has led to the death of 411 people in the last 30 days in Jodhpur, said officials.

According to a health official, 35,673 people were tested positive for Covid in Jodhpur from January 1 to April 30, of which around 92% (32,826) were found to be positive in April.

Experts said not breaking the chain of infection is the biggest cause of concern. From January to April, 445 people died in Jodhpur. Soaring active cases has also increased the pressure for beds in all government and private hospitals. In November last year, the maximum number of 15,211 people were found infected and 214 people died.

Principal of Dr. SN Medical College, Dr. SS Rathore said, “Last year, the disease was cured only by keeping infected people in isolation. Not even much medicine was required. This time, all the infected are in critical condition. Every patient is needing oxygen.”

He added, “Last year, a large number of fatalities were among the elderly. But this time the youth are not only getting more infected, but their mortality is also relatively high.”

District Collector Inderjeet Singh said, “Private lab owners have been directed to share reports of patients undergoing CT scans with the administration, so that potential infected patients can be identified.”

The process of setting up oxygen plants in one hospital in each assembly constituency has also been started, he added.
