Their health is our priority: Celebs try to keep parents safe from virus AMYRA DASTUR,

As the country faces a deluge of Covid-19 cases amid the second wave, people are back on their toes. They’re taking care of their health but more importantly, caring for their parents. Since aged people are more prone to catching the virus, some celebrities are being stricter as compared to last year, while dealing with their parents.

Actor Rahul Dev, currently in Delhi with his family, has put stringent protocols in place to make sure his mother is in safe hands.

“She’s not stepping out of the house at all. Last year, she would at least go to our terrace garden for a walk. But now, she has stopped that too. Being in an enclosed space can get pretty claustrophobic. Although I don’t think not getting fresh air is the healthiest option, right now that’s what she’s doing,” he shares.

Although Amyra Dastur’s mother, a landscaper, isn’t stepping out as her work has come to a halt, the actor’s father (67), the medical director of a prominent hospital in south Mumbai, has to go out every day.

“He’s been taking on the pandemic since it hit India in 2020 and visits the hospital every single day. He’s truly my hero. My family gets so worried when he has to go out, but he has taken the vaccine, and now we’re a little less on the edge. My father has advised me to use sanitisers and not take off my mask when out. Only one person’s irresponsibility can actually lead to your burden, so I ask others to mask up” Dastur explains.

Living in Mumbai, away from her parents in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, actor Alankrita Sahai is worried about them. But, she’s keeping a tab on their health. Sahai ensures they check their oxygen levels twice a day, and take vitamins. “They wanted to visit me in March, but the cases had just started rising and I told them to not come then.

There’s a big garden in the back and front of our Noida house, so they can sit and relax there. I order for their supplies online,” Sahai tells us. Casting director and actor Abhishek Banerjee misses his parents. “They’re in Kharagpur, West Bengal, and doing fine. I’m in Goa and wanted to spend my birthday with them, but we decided travelling isn’t the best option at the moment,” he laments.

It’s been over a month that actor Shama Sikander hasn’t met her mother. “My family lives five minutes from my house, but she’s not going out and neither am I. It’s tough, but knowing she’s well makes me feel better,” she says.
