BHARATPUR MP ATTACKED, BJP LEADERS ASK POLICE TO ARREST THE ACCUSED

- Suresh Foujdar

BHARATPUR: BJP MP from Bharatpur Ranjita Koli was attacked by around five unknown people when she was returning to Weir after an inspection of the district Raj Bahadur Memorial hospital on Thursday night, police said.

A security guard, her brother, and two others were with the 41-year-old MP when their car was attacked. She was taken to the district hospital; she returned to the circuit house after the doctor discharged her with first aid, police said.

Superintendent of police Devendra Kumar Bishnoi said, “A police team was sent to the spot just after being informed about the incident. Police registered a complaint against unknown goons who attacked the MP. All attackers will be identified and arrested soon.”

The MP claimed the incident took place near Dharsoni village on Hantara-weir road under Halena police station. “Around four or five goons in a vehicle stopped us and started pelting stones at our car and attacked it with iron sticks,” Koli said.

“We were all safe but the car was damaged. I became unconscious but my security guard saved us. I have informed police officials about the incident. Police will investigate and find out who are behind the attack,” she said.

“We leave house early morning daily to visit health centres and hospitals in the district to see the management for Covid-19 patients. How public will feel safe when an MP was attacked?”

State health minister Subhash Garg directed police to identify and arrest for all those who attacked MP. He assured the MP to provide security.

The attack on Ranjeeta Koli drew sharp reactions from the BJP. Former chief minister Vasundhara Raje said the attack on Koli reflected the deteriorating law and order situation in the state. “The state government continued to congratulate itself on the issue of women safety but in reality, anarchy has only grown under the shield of political patronage,” she said.

Raje said people can repose their trust in the police only if the accused get stringent punishment. “The Congress should remember that we handed over to them a peaceful state. They should not turn it into a state of criminals,” she said.

State BJP president Satish Poonia said there are serious doubts about the functioning of the state police. “The accused involved in the ghastly attack on MP Ranjeet Koli are still at large. The Bharatpur MP during her recent inspections had exposed inadequate arrangements at CHCS,” he said.

Leader of the opposition, Gulab Chand Kataria called the attack on Bharatpur MP a matter of concern.

“The manner in which she was attacked at a secluded corner in the night while visiting hospitals raises alarming questions. I have spoken to IG Bharatpur about the case. The government and the police should investigate this case diligently,” he said.

THE MP CLAIMED THE INCIDENT TOOK PLACE NEAR DHARSONI VILLAGE ON HANTARA-WEIR ROAD UNDER HALENA POLICE STATION.
