BJP urges governor to reinstate suspended mayor, councillors
A BJP delegation, led by state BJP chief Satish Poonia met governor Kalraj Mishra on Tuesday over the recent suspension of Jaipur Greater Municipal Corporation mayor Somya Gujjar and three councillors.
In a memorandum to the governor, the delegation members urged him to reinstate the suspended mayor and three councillors, and take legal action against the guilty officials and state government.
They alleged that the state government unconstitutionally suspended the elected mayor and councillors Ajay Singh Chauhan, Shankar Sharma and Paras Jain.
The BJP alleged that since the party board was formed in the corporation, the Congress government has been creating obstructions in the mayor’s work and the board, and the election of the board chairman was testimony to this, when the court had to intervene.
The BJP put forward the entire incident that happened in the corporation between the elected representative and the officer.
The state government had suspended the mayor and three councillor for allegedly misbehaving with the municipal corporation’s commissioner, Yagya Mitra Singh Deo, on Friday. They have been accused of manhandling and abusing the commissioner in the mayor’s chamber.
Congress spokesperson Archana Sharma said, “The people of the city are disappointed with the conduct of mayor and councillors. They under a conspiracy manhandled and misbehaved with the official. A mayor is the first citizen of a city and such behaviour is unacceptable.”
