ALIGARH RECORDS ZERO CORONA CASES IN LAST 12 DAYS

- Hemendra Chaturvedi

AGRA: Aligarh is heading towards being declared as Covid-19 free district as it has reported zero positive cases in the last 12 days and no active cases in the past one week. However, the health department officials have appealed to the citizens not to lower their guards and are preparing for the target testing from July 16.

“Despite testing of more than 6,000 samples in a day, no positive case has been reported in Aligarh in the last 12 days. Further, no active case has been detected in Aligarh for the last one week,” said chief medical officer, Aligarh, Dr BP Singh Kalyani, on Wednesday.

“However, we appeal to the denizens not to lower their guards as the number of daily cases is rising again in some districts of the state. The states like Kerala and Maharashtra are yet to control the number of positive cases being reported in a day. The fight against Covid-19 is yet not over and apprehensions for third wave are there,” said Dr Kalyani, while raising concern against lack of mask wearing and following physical distancing mostly in crowded areas.

The district having no positive cases for 28 days continuously is declared Corona free district. “The incubation period of Covid-19 virus is considered to be 14 days and if there are no positive cases for two incubation period i.e. 24 days, then a district will be declared corona free district,” said the CMO.

“We have not reduced the number of samples being tested and 5000 to 6000 samples are being tested per day. We are also preparing for special target testing from July 16 onwards. A calendar has been distributed to each district, and as per this, samples will be collected from a specific group daily; be it shopkeepers, roadside vendors or others on a particular day,” the CMO added.
