Four booked under anti-conversion law in Badaun, two held

LUCKNOW: Four people were booked in district Badaun under the Uttar Pradesh Prohibitio­n of Unlawful Conversion of Religion law, in a case involving the alleged forceful conversion of woman to Islam, on Tuesday. Police have arrested two of the main accused while another two are said to be absconding.

Reportedly, 23-year-old Danish of Kaderchowk area of Badaun came in contact with a 21 year old woman from another community. Danish allegedly introduced himself as Dinesh and eloped with the woman. The couple got married in Delhi last year. The woman came to know about the real identity of Danish when he brought her home in Badaun district a few months ago, according to a police complaint lodged by the father of the girl in the matter.

Circle officer of the area, Gajendra Kumar said, “The woman is a resident of Bulandshah­ar district. She was held hostage by Danish at his home.

The matter came to light when the girl managed to escape from there last week and reached the house of her sister. We have lodged an FIR regarding the matter based on the complaint lodged by the woman’s father.”

The police have booked Danish Miyan, his father Ahmed Miyan and their relatives, Chahat Miyan and Amir, in the FIR. The police arrested Danish Miyan and his father Ahmed Miyan. A police team has been formed to track and arrest the absconding accused. Meanwhile, Danish’s family claimed that the woman is being forced by her family to give false statements against Danish. “The woman and Danish are in love. The girl’s family did not accept the relationsh­ip so they had to elope . The woman’s sister called her last week to meet and when she visited her, the father and other family caught her and lodged a false case against our family,” said Danish’s maternal uncle, Ashfaq Miyan.
