Police on lookout for mastermind of robbery at finance company

Agra police is looking to arrest the mastermind of daylight robbery at Manappuram Finance Company in Kamla Nagar area of Agra city on Saturday.while two of the accused were gunned down in an encounter late on Saturday evening, police suspect a Firozabad-based history-sheeter could be the mastermind of robbery.

“We are in the process of identifyin­g two others involved in the robbery in Agra city. History-sheeter identified as Narendra alias Lala alias Anil is believed to be the mastermind. He is known for committing crime every time with new set of accomplice­s,” said senior superinten­dent of police (SSP) Agra Muniraj G.

“Two of the brothers of Narendra alias Lala alias Anil were shot down in police encounter at Agra. His sister too is a history-sheeter and wanted in cases registered at various police stations and was found involved in various crimes on highways,” said the SSP Agra while addressing media at Police Lines on Sunday.

“It is believed that there were at least five accused who entered the office of Manappuram Finance company and took the staff on gunpoint on Saturday afternoon. They had roughly taken away 16 kilogram of gold and cash of about Rs 5 lakh as they walked away from the spot and caught in CCTV camera,” said the SSP.

“The accused had taken away mobile of staff member and were thus chased through surveillan­ce and two were found in Khandoli area in outskirts of city. They had open fire at police team chasing them, which in defence fired back. Manish Pandey and Nirdosh Kumar were injured in firing. They were taken to Emergency Ward of SN Medical College but were declared brought dead on Saturday evening,” said the SSP.

“The police have recovered 7.5 kilogram of gold and Rs 1.6 lakh in cash from these two,” said the SSP.

“‘Six teams have been constitute­d and are headed by circle officer rank cops to trace the remaining three, including mastermind Narendra alias Lala alias Anil. Security has been beefed up and checking continues at important crossings as we are committed to nab others involved and recover the loot,” said the SSP.
