Schools and parents need to ensure a few more things, apart from following the Covid protocol, before students attend classes on campuses, said experts.

“Children may not be vaccinated, but it has to be ensured that students do not come in contact with anyone who is not vaccinated fully. Be it the teacher, or bus driver,” said Prof Surya Kant, head of the department of respiratory medicine at King George’s Medical University (KGMU) in Lucknow.

Prof Surya Kant, who was in charge of Covid wards at KGMU during the second wave, said, “Bus or van drivers, conductors, guard at the gate, teachers in the class, clerks at school office and even peon on campus have to be vaccinated fully before they enter the school campus where children come to attend classes physically.” This is to make sure children do not catch infection from the people on campus, he said. “Physical distancing will be maintained but vaccination is another level of safety,” said Prof Surya Kant.

“Not just at school, but also family members of the child should get both the Covid vaccine doses. The school should ask for the vaccination certificate of the parents and also display on the notice board that all its staff, including gardener, plumber and electrician, are vaccinated,” said Dr Abhishek Shukla secretary general, Association of International Doctors.

Following Covid proto maintaining distance in c and also during tiffin tim important to ensure infec does not spread on campu said Prof Surya Kant.

“If schools call limited teaching staff when classes being run, it will further check infection spread. All ple coming for queries or o work should be stopped at reception which should be m at the main gate,” said Dr Sa Kapoor, director of Health hospital.
