AMU celebrates Independence Day
Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) vice-chancellor (V-C) Professor Tariq Mansoor unfurled the national flag at the Strachey Hall to celebrate 75th Independence Day on Sunday.
Addressing a Covid- protocol arranged gathering of faculty members and students, Prof Mansoor said, “AMU endeavours to enlist, appreciate and document the lives of unsung freedom fighters whose contributions were immense.” He said that the Centre for Women’s Studies had been entrusted with the task to prepare a comprehensive book on Women Freedom Fighters of India.
“On this occasion, I also pay my heartfelt homage to all members of the AMU fraternity, past and present—and also those within and outside our country, who succumbed to the pandemic—because every life matters. I pray for their souls to rest in peace,” the V-C added.
“It is heartening to know that our country has taken huge strides in various fields and each year, these accomplishments have enabled us to move towards the goals envisioned by the founding fathers for our great nation.
India is an epitome of unity in diversity and, every effort should be made to maintain peace, love, equality and harmony among all its citizens as written in the constitution, said.
Later, the vice-chance planted saplings on the pr ises of Sir Syed Hall with Hameeda Tariq, Abdul Ha IPS (registrar) and Prof M Wasim Ali (proctor) to mar occasion.
