Wanted criminal shot dead in Agra

A wanted accused carrying a reward of Rs. 50,000 was shot dead while he was an making attempt to escape from police custody on Monday morning. He fled when he was being taken to the residence of his accomplice for recovery of arms. He fired at the police while hiding but was injured as police retaliated. He was taken for treatment to SN Medical College and Hospital but was declared dead.

Pass in Agra. He was wanted in half a dozen cases in Agra and Dholpur and was carrying a reward of Rs. 50,000 on his arrest. He was tracked with his associate on a motor cycle,” informed inspector general (IG) of Agra Range Naveen Arora.

“The motor-cycle used by the accused was a stolen one having a fake number plate. The accused was brought to Sadar police station and was interrogat­ed. Thakur was wanted in cases of bank loot, planning murder and kidnapping for ransom. His associate confirmed that accused in custody was Mukesh Thakur and was planning a major crime after receiving arms from someone known to him in Agra. He was involved in loot at Canara Bank in Ira nagar area of Agra,” st Arora.
