SECRETARY OF SENIOR GOV OFFICIAL ATTEMPTS SUICIDE IN OFFICE, CRITICAL

The 52-year-old personal secretary of an additional chief secretary of UP Government allegedly attempted suicide by shooting himself inside his office in Bapu Bhawan on Monday afternoon, police said.

Confirming the incident, additional commission­er of police (ACP) of Hazratganj Raghvendra Mishra said,” A personal secretary attempted suicide using his registered revolver. The incident occurred inside his office on the eighth floor of Bapu Bhawan. The official who attempted suicide reached office at around 1:30 pm. At around 1.45, other staff in office heard a gunshot and found that the office was closed from inside. The staff used force to open the door and took the secretary to hospital.”

Police officials refused to comment on the reason behind the incident. “Forensic unit is examining the crime scene. I cannot comment on the motive at this point of time,”said the ACP. Police found a suicide note written by the secretary on the spot. “The secretary wrote in the suicide note that he was under stress due to ongoing difference­s between his sister with her in-laws,” said a senior police official.

The condition of the secretary is said to be critical.

Police recovered a revolver from inside the office where the incident took place. The area has been cordoned off and forensic field units have been rushed to collect evidence from the spot.

Bapu Bhawan is part of the secretaria­t complex that house offices of government department­s. It is one of the most heavily secured buildings in the heart of the city.

Bharatiya Kisan Union chief and head of Baliyan Khap Naresh Tikait resolved his difference­s with Choudhary of Gathwala Malik Khap Rajendra Singh, sharing the dais with him in the panchayat in Kurawa village in Muzaffarna­gar district on Sunday, with the former extending his full support to the proposed Mahapancha­yat on September 5.

To note, Rajendra Singh was annoyed after the attack on BJP MLA Umesh Malik in Tikait’s village Sisauli.

Gathwala Malik Khap is one of the major Khaps in the region which extends up to Haryana and has members in 52 villages of the region. Rajendra Singh, head of this Khap had expressed his dismay after attack on BJP MLA from Budhana constituen­cy Umesh Malik in Tikait’s village Sisauli on August 14. Sisauli is also headquarte­rs of the BKU where Malik had gone to attend a programme and faced the wrath of farmers.

Umesh is a member of Gathwala Khap and believed to be close to Rajendra Singh. Attack on him annoyed Singh and he avoided attending panchayats being organised to support the proposed Mahapancha­yat in Muzaffarna­gar on September 5 under the aegis of BKU.

Naresh Tikait is also choudhary of Baliyan Khap which has its members in 84 villages of the region. The Sanyukt Kisan Morcha ( SKM) has given call for Muzaffarna­gar Mahapancha­yat under BKU. It’s chief Naresh Tikait, his son Gaurav Tikait and other BKU leaders are reaching out to people through meetings, panchayats and seeking support of Khap chieftains and thambedars, including Gathwala Malik Khap.

Though Rajendra Singh kept away from such meetings after attack on Umesh Malik, his counterpar­t of Baliyan Khap said, “We will persuade hi the interest of farmers,” eventually both shared the in Kurawa village on Sun and vowed to fight togethe farmers.

Describing the forthcom panchayat as

Vikas Malik of Kur admitted that Khap head Ra dra Singh had faced trem dous pressure to attend the chayat and extend his sup to the Mahapancha­yat, as 3 of 4 thambedars (regional h of the Khap) were already porting the Mahapancha­yat majority of clan members had shown their inclina towards it.

Referring to controver statements given by a few leaders about farmers’ m ment in the past, former Harendra Singh said that it a calculated move of the BJ provoke people and their wrong move could give party opportunit­y to malign movement. “Their even strategy seems to project ongoing movement as a Jat non-jat stir”, said Malik.
