SRINAGAR: Three Pakistani terrorists affiliated to Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) outfit were killed in an encounter with security forces in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, police said, adding that a cop also lost his life in the encounter.

According to the police, the terrorists were killed during an encounter at Najibhat crossing in the Kreeri area of Baramulla district when the joint team of police and army intercepted them moving in a car.

Inspector General of Police, Vijay Kumar, said the killing of the three Pakistani JeM terrorists was a huge success. “The three terrorists were active in the area for the last three to four months and were planning to carry a big attack in Srinagar,” Kumar said, adding: “We were regularly tracking them.”

So far this year, 22 Pakistani terrorists have been killed in various encounters with security forces, said Kumar, who was present during the wreath-laying ceremony of Mudasir Ahmad, the police constable who died in the encounter. Kumar said the police force was pained at the loss of one of its men.Mudasir Ahmad is the fourth J&K policemen who died in encounter with terrorists this month. Three others were killed in targeted attacks, two in Srinagar and one at Pulwama.

There will be increased attempts to neutralise Pakistani terrorists, the IGP added. “There were nakas across Kashmir today (Wednesday). At one such naka at Najibhat crossing in Kreeri area, there was a chance encounter (with the terrorists) and three Pakistani JeM terrorists were killed,” the IGP said.

“The three terrorists could have come to Srinagar and carried out some big attack,” he said. The development comes a day after an off-duty police constable was killed and his nineyear-old daughter was injured after terrorists fired at them in Srinagar on Tuesday, police said.

Hours after the incident, The Resistance Front (TRF), an outfit affiliated with Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), in a statement on social media, claimed responsibility for the attack.

Police said constable Saifullah Qadri and his daughter were walking outside their house at Anchar Soura around 5pm when terrorists fired indiscriminately at them. While Qadri died on spot, the girl sustained a bullet injury and was rushed to a hospital. Qadri is the seventh police personnel to have been killed by terrorists this year.Asked about the Tuesday’s attack in Soura area, the Inspector General of Police said that the two local terrorists of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) behind the attack have been identified.

“Adil from Ganderbal, a local commander of TRF/LeT, and another newly-recruited terrorist, are behind the killing. We will neutralise them soon,” he said. He said the slain cop’s daughter was undergoing treatment at a hospital, but her condition is stable.
