RS polls: 8 BJP candidates file papers from UP
LUCKNOW (UTTAR PRADESH): The Bharatiya Janata Party ( BJP) candidates filed their nominations for the Rajya Sabha elections on Tuesday in the presence of Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath.
A total of eight BJP candidates, including BJP’s OBC Morcha national president K Laxman, former BJP state chief Laxmikant Bajpai , Mithilesh Kumar, Radha Mohan Das Aggarwal, Surendra Singh Nagar, Baburam Nishad, Darshana Singh and Sangeeta Yadav filed their nominations on Tuesday. Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman also filed her nomination papers as a BJP candidate in presence of Karnataka chief minister Basavaraja Bommai and others, in Bengaluru on Tuesday.
The BJP has fielded new faces Kavita Patidar and Sumitra Valmiki for the upcoming elections from Madhya Pradesh. The terms of BJP’s two current Rajya Sabha members from the state - M J Akbar and Sampatiya
Uike - will end next month. Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and state BJP president VD Sharma accompanied Patidar and Valmiki when they submitted their nomination papers to the state assembly’s principal secretary and returning officer A P Singh in the Vidhan Sabha secretariat.
Elections to 57 Rajya Sabha seats spread across 15 states will be held on June 10.
The maximum number of seats is in Uttar Pradesh, with polls to be held for 11 vacant seats.
The elections are due on June 10, the last date for filing nomination is May 31 and that for withdrawal is June 3.
Congress leaders Rajeev Shukla and Ranjeet Ranjan also filed their nomination papers from Chhattisgarh on Tuesday. The two leaders were accompanied by Chhattisgarh chief minister Bhupesh Baghel, Congress’s state in-charge P L Punia and some state ministers when they filed their nominations for the June 10 biennial polls.
Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) women's Wing president Mahua Maji filed her nomination in Ranchi in the presence of Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren .
In Odisha, four candidates of the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) filed their nomination papers for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections.
