Actor Adaa Khan, who has been in the industry for 13 years, never dreamed that she would ever come this far. “I started my career with ads and never imagined I would be an actor. I never thought ki yahan tak pahuchungi,” she shares.

Khan admits that she has had her share of struggles in her career. The pandemic, in particular, made her rethink her career choice, given the insecurity and the tough times faced by the industry. The Naagin actor shares, “During the pandemic, things looked bleak. We didn’t know what would happen next. At one point, I thought maybe I should start looking for another career. An actor’s job is not from 9am to 5pm. Nor does it come with a monthly pay cheque. We

(actors) have all been through such insecurities and we have to push through and move ahead.”

Talking about how things have changed in the industry since the pandemic, Khan adds, “Budgets were slashed and makers preferred fresh faces in television shows. On OTT platforms, makers [now tend to] opt for movie actors, and so actors like us are figuring out where to go.”

Nevertheless, she is happy that things seem better this year on the work front. In fact, she has shot for two web shows.

Looking back, Khan feels that hailing from an orthodox family and yet being an actor is a significantly huge deal. She is also grateful for the support she received from her loved ones.

She tells us, “In my family, my cousins and aunts wear hijab. I am the only person in this glamourous field. But they are proud and supportive of me. My dad was orthodox, but my mother’s support paved the way for me, and that really helped.”

Starting from Palampur

Express in 2009, she went on to star in several shows on the small screen, like Behenein and Amrit Manthan. She has also been a part of comedy and reality shows, such as Comedy Nights Bachao and Khatron Ke Khiladi.

Thankful for her career trajectory, she says, “I might have taken small steps in my career, but I am happy with the growth. I don’t want to reach anywhere chhalaang maar ke.”
