Agra Metro Project team transplants trees in Shahjahan Garden
AGRA : In a step towards environment conservation, the Agra Metro Rail Project team successfully began transplanting trees falling on the track route in Shahjahan Garden area on Friday, despite having obtained permission for tree felling from the apex court. Six trees were planted on the first day of the exercise. In total, approximately 27 trees are to be transplanted. The process of transplantation involves digging a circular hole around the tree, curing it with a special chemical so as to enable the tree to grow new roots and subsequently uprooting and transplanting the tree to a newer location.
The entire process takes place in around 15 days. Cassia, Papdi (also known as Chilbil), Jacaranda, etc. are some of the many varieties of trees which were transplanted on the premises of Shahjahan Garden.
Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (UPMRCL) managing director Kumar Keshav said, ”Saving as many trees as we can has always been the number one priority of UP Metro. We tried our best to save as many trees as possible in Lucknow and Kanpur Metro Projects and not just cut them and get it done with. After successful transplantation in Lucknow and Kanpur metro projects, we are now ensuring the same for Agra Metro Project.”
“The goal is to execute the Metro project safely and sustainably. Environment conservation is the need of the hour and Agra Metro Project is also being executed on the same lines. Clean Metro, Green Metro has been the mission of UPMRC which will be followed in all metro projects. This also ensures continuous green coverage in the project and minimises impact on environment, he said.
