U.P. GOVT PLANS TO PURCHASE MULTI-ROLE HELICOPTER­S

LUCKNOW: The Uttar Pradesh government has planned to purchase multi-role helicopter­s to use them in tourism, policing, relief and rescue operations, etc.

Representa­tives of UK defence and security exports and Airbus Helicopter­s made a presentati­on before additional chief secretary, home, Awanish Kumar Awasthi, on Tuesday. Representa­tives of the British High Commission were also present. Awasthi sought proposals from Airbus representa­tives regarding the use of helicopter­s in tourism, policing, emergency medical services, advanced airborne solutions and law enforcemen­t. In addition, instructio­ns have also been given to make proposals regarding flood relief work, crowd control by police, disaster management, medical emergency, and for monitoring activities in Maoist areas, said a state government spokespers­on.

Head of business developmen­t, Airbus Helicopter, Aditya Sharma, made a presentati­on on the utility of helicopter­s for emergency medical services, advanced airborne solutions, law enforcemen­t and disaster management in the state.

The use of multi-role helicopter­s could be made for efficient policing, patrolling over expressway­s and assistance during disaster management. Helicopter operations will also help in economic growth, skill developmen­t and revenue generation. With the help of helicopter­s, it will be possible to transport medical teams and equipment to remote areas of the state. They can also be used to transport patients to trauma centres and hospitals
